Wild – Book

Riveted by the trailer of the movie “wild” I immediately knew, that I had to read the book and my trip to Florida was the perfect time to do so. I like reading at the gate or in the plane, even though I often fall asleep after some pages. Moreover I dream of the things I read, which is why I like positive books, books that are thought-provoking, as “wild”, written by Cheryl Stayed does.

The book is about the loss of a family member, which I feel related to. To loose someone you love, not being able to see that person again, not hearing his voice again leaves behind an immense, unimaginable void. And that is, what I think, this book tries to say. You have to bear that emptiness, although you try to run away so badly. And sometimes it is best to face that loss alone. Thinking over the fact of loosing someone, while not asking why (which is in my opinion the worst question you can ask yourself) is very important in accepting that this person will not come back.

Vom Trailer des Film gefesselt wusste ich sofort – dieses Buch muss ich lesen und mein Trip nach Florida war der ideale Zeitpunk. Im Flieger und am Gate liest es sich einfach super angenehm finde ich, auch wenn ich dabei immer wieder einschlafe und dann meistens genau von dem träume, was ich gerade gelesen habe. Deswegen mag ich positive Bücher, die zum denken anregen, Bücher die mich träumen lassen. Im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. So auch “wild” von Cheryl Strayed.

Das Buch ließ mich eintauchen in ein Leben, das dem meinen nicht so unähnlich ist. Verlust ist etwas, mit dem auch ich zu kämpfen hatte, einen geliebten Menschen nie mehr zu sehen, seine Stimme nicht mehr hören zu können. Diese Leere kann man nicht füllen, man kann es auch nicht verarbeiten, man kann bloß lernen damit zu leben. Und das ist es auch, was das Buch, eine Reise entlang des pacific chest trail, meiner Meinung nach sagen will. Du musst dich mit deinem Verlust auseinandersetzen, auch wenn du davor davon zu laufen scheinst. Dieses “alleine sein” ist sicher ein wichtiger Aspekt der zumindest ein wenig hilft.
